Designed to withstand Maine's weather, Woof.Play.Eat. boasts a 10,000-square-foot play area where dogs can run and socialize year-round, supervised by trained staff. A dedicated section allows owners to order food and dine alongside their pets. The daycare offers a structured environment with a focus on enrichment, featuring limited dog-to-staff ratios and multiple play areas tailored to different groups.
Safety measures are emphasized, with staff called “Wooferees” monitoring play spaces. All dogs must provide proof of registration and vaccinations, along with completing a temperament assessment prior to entry. Regular events, themed playdates, and training sessions will be hosted, with spaces available for private parties and community events.
Founders Marissa and Brad Sterl, experienced dog owners, established Woof.Play.Eat. to create an environment that prioritizes safety and community. Brad, who has a long history in business in the Northeast, recognized Portland as the ideal location for their first venture.
“Portland has one of the most vibrant dog communities we’ve ever seen,” Marissa Sterl noted. “With its walkable neighborhoods and active lifestyle, it felt right to launch something that could serve dogs and their owners year-round.”
The company is committed to employee welfare, offering competitive wages, health benefits, retirement options, and training programs aimed at elevating skills in animal care and hospitality.
The restaurant’s menu features comfort food with a creative twist, offering dishes such as the “Au Poivre Pooch,” a steak au poivre with frites, and lighter options like harissa croquettes with sweet pea couscous. There are also special menu items for dogs.
Community engagement is a core part of Woof.Play.Eat.’s mission, with plans to support local shelters through adoption events and fundraisers. The company encourages participation in donation drives, fostering connections within Portland’s dog-loving community.
“We hope Woof.Play.Eat becomes a hub for local dogs and their owners to relax and enjoy,” said Brad Sterl. “We are excited about the potential for future locations across New England.”
