Trainer Deported in Working Dogs of Nevada Abuse Case, Charges Dropped Against Another Employee

Johnstone, a Scottish citizen, was previously detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He faces allegations of abusing dogs on video during his time at the facility. Despite his deportation, a warrant for his arrest remains pending in the Las Vegas Justice Court system, and he is being represented by a public defender.

Berube's case has been dropped by Clark County prosecutors, who informed the court that they would not pursue an animal abuse charge against her. Both Johnstone and Berube were arrested earlier this year following a month-long investigation into the allegations of animal abuse at the rescue located in the Las Vegas area.

According to police reports, Johnstone was recorded attempting to kick a dog and dragging other dogs by their leashes. Berube was accused of witnessing some of the incidents without intervening. Following the investigation, authorities executed an emergency shutdown of the business, resulting in the rescue of 35 dogs, which were taken to City of Las Vegas Animal Protection Services. The report also noted the use of shock collars on dogs in kennels, including young puppies.

Johnstone was confirmed to be in federal custody through the Department of Homeland Security’s detainee database, and despite his deportation, the arrest warrant for him indicates that the case remains active in Las Vegas.
