Participants engage in hands-on learning activities that cover both small and large animal medicine. They interact with animals, assist in medical procedures, and take part in parasitology sessions where they closely examine samples of worms and other parasites. Clinical skills workshops enhance their confidence by teaching them how to administer injections and oral medications.

In the Cardiology service, students gain practical experience in performing heart diagnostic tests and interpreting the results at a veterinary teaching hospital. The Anatomy Lab offers insights into how organ systems, bones, and muscles are interconnected, which is essential for diagnosing diseases and performing surgeries.

During their experience at the Companion Animal Alliance clinic, participants received direct exposure to community veterinary care, assisting the licensed veterinary team with various tasks. They welcomed clients, managed veterinary record forms, and helped streamline client flow through the clinic. Under the supervision of licensed veterinarians, students also participated in vaccine administration, allowing them to observe clinical care in an educational context.

This program is particularly significant in Louisiana, where it aims to cultivate future veterinarians and promote awareness of the various ways they contribute to their communities. The program concludes with mock interviews led by professionals to help prepare students for the veterinary school admissions process, providing valuable feedback and practice opportunities.
