Kevin Clegg, a Kailua native now living in Honolulu, has been involved with the Hawaiian Humane Society for 13 years. His journey began when he adopted a rat due to his condo's pet policy, but he always had a dream of owning a Pomeranian. Eventually, he adopted a puppy he named Tanuki. To support the shelter, Clegg asked his birthday guests to donate supplies and funds instead of gifts.

Clegg also adopted Koguma, an 8-year-old Maltese Yorkie, whom he initially fostered before deciding to keep. His commitment to animal welfare deepened when he discovered Tanuki had early signs of heart disease three years ago. This challenging experience motivated him to volunteer at the Hawaiian Humane Society. Clegg stated, "Hawaiian Humane Society has helped me find true purpose. Now, when I’m a pet parent to animals getting older and sicker, I think to myself how lucky I am to care for them in their sickness."
As a volunteer, he supports pet adoptions and enjoys mentoring newcomers, expressing passion for guiding families in finding their ideal pets. Clegg emphasized the need for volunteers and described the rewards of participating in various roles, stating, "If you love animals, it’s a great thing to be a part of."
He believes that contributing to the Hawaiian Humane Society's mission of sheltering and rehoming animals brings him "pure happiness" and encourages others to join in. Upcoming events include dog adoption days at PetSmart Mililani on September 26 and Aloha Home Market on November 29. The organization welcomes visitors daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both its campuses.
