KANSAS CITY, Mo. – KC Pet Project is facing an urgent crisis with 254 dogs currently in its care and only two open kennels remaining. The shelter has reached critical capacity as dog intake has significantly exceeded adoptions, with 93 dogs arriving since Sunday and only 40 being adopted.

In response to the situation, the shelter is waiving adoption fees for dogs weighing 40 pounds or more through Sunday, October 4, and includes a pet parent starter kit with food, toys, and supplies for those who adopt.
The community can assist in several ways:
1. **Adopting**: Shelter officials emphasize the importance of adopting long-stay residents, such as Kahuna, a 2-year-old dog who is experiencing kennel stress. Each adoption creates more space for incoming animals.
2. **Fostering**: Short-term foster placements can quickly open up housing for dogs in need. Interested individuals can sign up to become fosters.
3. **Sharing**: The community is encouraged to share the shelter's announcements online to enhance the reach of their adoption initiatives.
