Kayla recounted, "When we walked out our front door, [she] came running out from across the street, crying over and over. She was skin and bones." Unable to ignore her plight, Brendan quickly went to a nearby Walgreens to get food while Kayla comforted the kitten, who eventually allowed her to pet her briefly.

Brendan returned with two cans of cat food, which the kitten eagerly consumed. Realizing she needed help, they took her to their garage for a temporary resting place until their vet appointment the next day. Despite not intending to adopt a cat, Kayla found herself growing attached, saying, "We were not planning on getting a cat. But I was already starting to love her."

At the vet, they discovered the kitten, named Callie, did not have a microchip, indicating she had likely been living on her own. She also had fleas and ringworm, requiring significant treatment. Nevertheless, the couple was committed to her care. "Because of the fleas, we had to keep her quarantined in a crate set up in our garage," Kayla explained.

During this time, they managed her treatment diligently, which involved disinfecting her environment and administering medications. Kayla described Callie as always being friendly, often rubbing her head affectionately against her hands.

After two months of care, Callie's ringworm was cleared, and she was spayed, making way for her to explore more of their home. Initially kept in the garage, she later spent time in the bathroom, where she got acquainted with Cora at a safe distance.

The moment they had all waited for came when they opened the bathroom door to officially welcome Callie to her forever home. Nearly a year later, Callie has thrived, now a joyful and affectionate cat, and weighs significantly more than when she was found.

Reflecting on their journey, Kayla stated, "We truly feel so grateful to have her in our family, and she is a symbol of resilience to us." Brendan and Kayla feel fortunate to have Callie in their lives, celebrating her sweet and affectionate nature.
