Harford County has recorded 28 confirmed cases of rabies this year, matching the total for all of last year. A recent incident involved a stray cat with rabies symptoms at the Humane Society, reported Erin Long, the organization's Marketing Director. She emphasized that domestic animals are required to be vaccinated against rabies, as once symptoms appear, the disease becomes fatal.

To help local pet owners, the Humane Society is hosting a low-cost vaccine clinic on Saturday, October 24, at the Aberdeen Fire Department on North Rogers Street. Following a similar event in the spring where nearly 500 animals were vaccinated, the Humane Society anticipates an even greater turnout due to the current outbreak.
The clinic will offer vaccinations at a significantly reduced rate of $15, compared to the several hundred dollars typically charged by veterinarians. Long highlighted the financial strain many families face, stating, "When it’s a case of, ‘Am I going to, you know, feed myself? Am I going to take care of my pet?’ often, care for the pet does start to suffer, so we are trying to keep our price point really low."
