Chesapeake firefighters responded to a residential fire in the Greenbrier area early Tuesday morning, rescuing an elderly resident and reviving a dog suffering from smoke inhalation. Dispatch received multiple calls reporting the fire on Daylily Drive shortly before 6 a.m.

Engine Company 14 arrived about ten minutes later and found heavy fire at the back of a two-story condominium building. The firefighters successfully evacuated an elderly resident who was unable to leave the unit on their own. In addition to the resident, crews rescued two cats and a dog that required resuscitation due to smoke inhalation. The dog was successfully revived and later reunited with its owner.
Multiple hoselines were set up to control the fire and protect adjacent properties while ensuring the safe evacuation of all residents. The fire was brought under control by 6:18 a.m., with assistance from Virginia Beach Fire Department Engine 19 through automatic aid.
The fire caused significant damage to all four condominiums involved, rendering them uninhabitable and displacing five residents. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
