In a small village in Poland during the summer, Eva zu Beck encountered an abandoned German Shepherd by the side of a busy road. Initially, she feared that the dog might belong to her, but upon closer inspection, she found a neglected animal, thin and with a severely matted coat. The dog was in clear distress and had been left there by its owner approximately two weeks prior, waiting in vain for someone who would not return.

Despite multiple attempts by locals to rescue him, the frightened dog would bolt into the woods whenever approached. Eva decided on a different strategy: she began visiting the dog daily, bringing food to earn his trust. Gradually, he grew more comfortable and eventually accepted food directly from her hand, marking a significant breakthrough.
To facilitate his rescue, Eva returned with food and a mild sedative, with help from a local resident. They managed to coax the dog into her car and took him to a veterinary clinic for much-needed medical care. After his recovery, Eva took him home and asked her social media followers to suggest a name. They chose Atlas, which she feels suits him well.
A month after his rescue, Atlas is becoming increasingly confident, and a foster family is already prepared to welcome him into their home. Eva wishes him the best in his new life.
