COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Horace, a 10-year-old cat eager to be a loving lap companion, and his more adventurous friend Silas are currently seeking a permanent home together after being rescued from a condemned house. Shelby Furer from Colony Cats (& dogs) introduced the bonded pair during the Fur Baby Friday segment on Good Day Columbus.

The two cats were left behind when someone moved out and were neglected until their rescue. They have been in the care of Colony Cats since before April, during which time two other cats from the same situation have already found homes.

Furer emphasized that Horace and Silas must be adopted together due to their close bond. Horace quickly showcased his affectionate nature during the segment, comfortably settling into anchor Kurt Ludlow’s lap. "Horace definitely would love to be a full-time lap kitty," Furer stated. Silas, on the other hand, possesses a more youthful spirit and enjoys exploring. Both cats display playful attitudes and appreciate companionship.

Their foster parents have noted that Horace and Silas get along well with both children and seniors, and they have also interacted positively with a dog in their foster home. Furer mentioned that retired individuals might find particularly rewarding companionship in the pair, but they would thrive in various household environments.

Both cats face ongoing health care needs, as they have chronic upper respiratory issues, leading to symptoms such as sneezing and eye discharge. Furer attributed these issues to neglect prior to their rescue but assured that they can still lead happy and fulfilling lives. They have undergone full dental extractions to enhance their comfort and quality of life.

Furer highlighted the importance of donations and fundraising for the rescue organization, especially given the long-term care for animals like Horace and Silas. Following a recent Garden Party fundraiser, Colony Cats is preparing for a sidewalk sale on Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 4 p.m. at its adoption center. The sale proceeds will support the cost of animal care and the rescue's bills.

Additionally, viewers are encouraged to follow Colony Cats on Facebook for updates on adoption events at partner Petco locations during a larger adoption push on Nov. 7–8. Both Horace and Silas hope their future holds a cozy home where they can find comfort, love, and companionship. "They’ve had a hard life," Furer remarked, "and they deserve better than that."
