With fewer than 90 board-certified veterinary nutritionists in the U.S., Dr. Weeth has collaborated with Freshpet for over 15 years, contributing her expertise on recipe nutrient profiles, product development, and clinical nutrition practices. Her transition to a full-time role is seen as a natural progression of their ongoing partnership, reinforcing Freshpet's commitment to evidence-based pet nutrition.
“Freshpet has always believed that fresh, whole food can have a meaningful impact on the lives of pets,” said Dr. Gerardo Pérez-Camargo, DVM, Ph.D., and Freshpet’s senior vice president of research and development. He emphasized that Dr. Weeth's role is crucial for enhancing research capabilities and maintaining high standards of scientific rigor.
Dr. Weeth brings over 20 years of clinical experience focused on canine and feline nutrition, offering support to veterinarians and pet owners both domestically and internationally. Most recently, she worked at the Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital in Los Angeles, California.
In her expanded responsibilities, Dr. Weeth will lead clinical nutrition efforts across research and development, contribute to new product initiatives, and communicate findings from Freshpet’s research endeavors.
“I’m excited to deepen our scientific work, strengthen our relationships with veterinarians, and collaborate on research that can help us better understand the lifelong impact of fresh nutrition,” Dr. Weeth stated.
She will also continue her involvement with the veterinary community through her roles in various prestigious organizations, including the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) nutrition committee, the WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee since 2016, and the Executive Board of the American Association of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN) since 2021.
Dr. Weeth completed her veterinary degree at the University of California, Davis, and achieved a Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2007. She is recognized for establishing the first dedicated nutrition specialty service in a private referral hospital at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey.
