Mylo, Hong Kong's First BCVN-Developed Pet Nutrition Brand, Launches with Focus on Pet Health

Mylo, Hong Kong’s first pet nutrition brand developed by a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist (BCVN), officially launched in June. The brand aims to enhance the health and longevity of dogs and cats through evidence-based nutritional science. It has garnered over 6 million HKD in initial funding and received significant support from veterinarians, highlighting its potential in scientific research.

Mylo's product range includes MyloMeals, a line of functional fresh meals; MyloMix, a precise nutrient blend; and MyloBiome, a line of functional probiotic formulas. The brand has also initiated a collaborative clinical study with Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Homeless Dog Shelter, which found that MyloBiome can inhibit 95% of harmful bacteria.

In addition, Mylo has launched the largest canine fecal microbiota database and a longevity research program, with Sylvia Burbery, former President of Royal Canin Asia Pacific, serving as a board advisor.

Recent global nutrition trends emphasize the benefits of fresh food. The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans advocate for consuming whole foods, which aligns with findings from a Cornell University study indicating that dogs on dry food are more likely to accumulate harmful substances related to chronic diseases. In contrast, dogs fed fresh food for just one month exhibited improved metabolic health indicators.

Kingson Kwan, the brand’s developer, likened the daily feeding of dry dog food to a poor diet for children, urging a shift away from processed foods and towards real nutrition for pets.

Mylo's research showed that maintaining a healthy gut microbiome is crucial for pets' overall health. The study conducted over 16 weeks demonstrated that MyloBiome significantly inhibited bad bacteria, improving gut health. Professor William Tai from Hong Kong Polytechnic University confirmed the study's findings, emphasizing the importance of a balanced gut microbiota.

Dr. Moran Tal-Gavriel, Mylo’s Chief Veterinary Nutrition Director, who holds European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) certification, leads the development of Mylo’s formulas, ensuring they are grounded in scientific research and effective for preventing diseases.

Moreover, Mylo plans to create a comprehensive canine longitudinal stool bank for microbiome research, a non-invasive initiative aimed at early detection of serious illnesses like chronic kidney disease (CKD). Dr. Samson Lui, co-founder and registered veterinarian, stated the goal is to utilize nutrition and early screening to promote better health and longevity in dogs.

To advance its strategic growth, Mylo has appointed Sylvia Burbery as a board advisor, bringing extensive experience in the pet care industry. Kwan highlighted Burbery’s role in strengthening Mylo’s leadership and advancing its scientific research initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.
