Jeena Roy, the volunteer and events coordinator, noted that dogs can quickly overheat when exposed to high temperatures outdoors. She emphasized that mobile adoption events typically provide excellent opportunities for shelters to connect pets with potential adopters. Many fairgoers may not plan to visit a shelter but could discover a new pet while enjoying the event.
‘It just takes love at first sight,’ Roy said, highlighting the unexpected nature of dog adoptions at such events.
Despite the cancellation, SEMO Pets is involved in a Bissell Pet Foundation adoption special running through September 30, where qualified dogs are available for $50 and cats for $25. Those interested in adopting or fostering a pet, as well as volunteering or donating to SEMO Pets, can visit the shelter's website.
