Bailey is a 4-year-old pit bull who has been at the shelter for five months after being surrendered by her owner due to housing issues. According to Elina Alterman, the shelter’s chief development officer, Bailey can be shy and wary of new people but shows her playful personality once she gets to know them.

Alterman noted that Bailey adores treats and enjoys cuddling, often preferring affection over games like fetch or tug-of-war. Volunteers have observed that her goofy nature shines through, especially during outings with the group Mass Street Mutts.

Potential adopters should prepare for an introduction period, as Bailey is more comfortable meeting individuals gradually. She has not lived with children, which may make her nervous; thus, she should meet all family members prior to adoption. Additionally, Bailey can be selective about her canine companions and is best paired with male dogs of similar size who enjoy playful interactions.

Bailey is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, with her adoption fee permanently waived until she finds a forever home.

In related news, other dogs at the shelter, including Cardi B, Waylon, and Moilie, are also seeking homes. The shelter has announced a special adoption event running until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, with reduced fees for adult dogs and puppies.

Those interested in adopting Bailey can contact the Lawrence Humane Society by emailing [email protected] or calling 785-843-6835. The shelter is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. to meet potential adopters. Foster opportunities are also available, with support provided by the shelter.
