Ciao, a five-year-old cat, was discovered abandoned and in poor health after spending time alone on the streets. Found severely underweight and unwell, he was taken in by a local veterinary clinic that scanned his microchip to trace his origins. This led them to the NAWS Humane Society shelter in Illinois, USA.

Ciao had been adopted as a kitten, but four years later, he was left to fend for himself. The shelter made multiple attempts to reach his adoptive family; however, all calls went unanswered, and they did not come to retrieve him.
Rescuers were heartbroken to find Ciao almost unrecognizable, having lost patches of fur and showing visible signs of having struggled to survive. Medical evaluations indicated that he was malnourished and suffering from mange. Additionally, he tested positive for FIV, a viral infection that can weaken a cat's immune system. Despite his traumatic experience, Ciao remains affectionate and seeks human companionship. The shelter hopes to find him a permanent home that can provide the care and love he needs.
