The surviving ginger kittens, named Peanut and Butter, are currently being fostered until they are ready for adoption. Nicola Tait, founder of Byfleet Cat Rescue, expressed her shock at the situation, stating, "The kittens had no chance." She noted that the charity typically receives inquiries about kittens of this age, indicating a community concern.

Tait mentioned that after being taken to the vet by the man who found them, they were contacted on Monday about the kittens' plight. As of now, both Peanut and Butter are recovering well; Butter had been a bit quieter initially, but Tait reported that they are now playful and doing better.

The kittens will remain in foster care until they reach eight to ten weeks old, at which point efforts to find them permanent homes will commence. Tait highlighted that the charity has had a busy summer, rescuing 90 cats so far. In a broader context, Cats' Protection reported in its latest annual report that approximately 7,000 stray and abandoned cats were taken in during 2025, alongside a noted decline in adoption rates.
