Claremont Mayor Peter Telford highlighted that the expansion aims to offer additional space for dogs and their owners while also preserving the environmental integrity of the reserve. He stated, "Lake Claremont is one of our community’s most popular recreation spaces, and this expansion strikes a practical balance between providing more room for responsible dog exercise while protecting the environmental values that make the lake so special."

Over the next few months, the expanded area will be marked with logs, new tree plantings, and signage. Community safety officers will patrol the area to ensure dogs remain under control, whether on or off-leash. It remains a requirement for all dogs to be on a leash in public areas unless they are within a designated off-lead zone. A map of dog exercise areas is available on the council’s website.
