Ginny Brown, Executive Director and Chief Animal Control Officer of the Humane Society, stated that the aim is to eliminate financial barriers for families, ensuring the health of their pets. The service is available only to residents of St. Joseph County, and those wishing to vaccinate their cats or dogs must pre-register. Each vehicle is limited to a maximum of four pets.
Participants who register will receive an email with specific instructions, including their designated time window for arrival. Brittni Gendron, Director of the South Bend Animal Resource Center, noted that while this initiative is significant, community support will be crucial for its success. Rabies, a fatal but preventable disease, poses risks to both animals and humans, emphasizing the importance of keeping pets vaccinated.
Registration will close once all spots are filled or by noon on October 5, 2026, whichever comes first.
