Sugar Mamas Bakery is collaborating with the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office Animal Control to hold a dog adoption event on Saturday, April 25. The event will occur outside the bakery, where shelter staff will showcase available dogs and puppies for adoption.

Renee Free, co-owner of Sugar Mamas, announced, "This coming Saturday, we are partnering with the Grant Parish Animal Shelter to host an adoption day here at the bakery. It’ll be outside, and they’ll bring a lot of the available puppies and dogs that they have for adoption.” With the shelter currently at capacity, fostering options will also be available for those not ready to adopt.
Throughout the week leading up to the event, Sugar Mamas will provide dog-themed treats and special offerings on the day of the event. Haley Greene, co-owner, stated, "We’re going to be making our homemade dog treats in honor of this weekend for the dogs at the shelter. So anybody who adopts a dog will be able to give that dog one of our cupcakes.” Additionally, a portion of Saturday’s proceeds will benefit the animal shelter.
Free emphasized that there are several ways for the community to help, even if they are not ready to adopt. "You can always come by, love the dogs, pet them, or even take them for little walks. The workers really appreciate you doing that. And you can also make a donation for things like blankets, food, and vet bills. The bills that the shelter incurs for taking care of these animals are really tremendous. So if it’s just five dollars, five dollars can go a long way.”
The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sugar Mamas, located at 5911 Monroe Highway in Ball.
