Creative agency BLKJ Havas Singapore and Havas New York have launched ‘The Rescue Collection,’ an initiative developed in collaboration with The Sato Project and Powerhouse Arts, designed to highlight the unique personalities of adoptable dogs through art. Rescue dogs from The Sato Project participated in a specially curated gallery experience at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn. Their interactions with various artwork were observed by animal welfare scientist Dr. Holly Molinaro, who measured their visual engagement and behavioral responses, such as lying down, sniffing, or jumping. These observations were then used to create personalized art "collections" that reflect each dog’s character.
According to Guilherme Machado from BLKJ Havas Singapore, the initiative seeks to shift perceptions of rescue dogs, emphasizing that they are individuals with distinct personalities rather than defined solely by their past experiences. Dr. Molinaro noted that the responses to art provide insights into the dogs’ personalities, illustrating that some dogs, for instance, were particularly drawn to surrealist sculptures.
Alessandra Migliore, Adoption & Foster Manager at The Sato Project, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative as a new way to showcase the personalities of their dogs. Recently, the organization transported 116 formerly stray rescue dogs from Puerto Rico to the Northeast United States to help them find homes.
