In recognition of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Will County Animal Protection Services is waiving adoption fees for all dogs aged six months and older throughout October. Will County APS Administrator Anna Payton emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Every shelter dog deserves the opportunity to find a loving home... By waiving adoption fees in October, we hope to encourage more people to consider adoption and help more of our dogs find their forever homes.”

Standard adoption policies and requirements will still apply. The fee waiver is applicable to eligible dogs available through the agency’s adoption partners, which include the Animal Care Center of Shorewood and All Pets Wellness Center in Aurora. Those interested can find available dogs and other adoptable pets on WCAPS’s Petfinder page at willcounty.gov/animalservices.

Additionally, the county is hosting Barktoberfest from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Soundgrowler Brewing Company, located at 8201 183rd St. in Tinley Park. A portion of the sales from Soundgrowler’s Oktoberfest Festbier Lager during this event will be donated to Will County Animal Protection Services. The festivities will feature pet trivia, raffle prizes, adoptable dogs, and activities for families.

Will County Animal Protection Services is also offering limited-edition Barktoberfest apparel through its online store. Attendees who wear this apparel to the event will receive a free raffle ticket. Payton added, “Whether you’re looking to adopt, support shelter pets, enjoy Oktoberfest festivities, or simply show off your love of dogs, October offers plenty of ways to celebrate shelter dogs and help us find more pets their forever homes.”
