Tendring District Council Honored at RSPCA PawPrints Awards 2026

TDC was awarded a Gold PawPrint in Animal Activity Licensing for the second consecutive year. This accolade highlights the Council’s commitment to maintaining high standards among animal-related businesses through rigorous regulation, which encompasses inspections and licensing of dog breeders, kennels, catteries, pet sellers, dog day care facilities, horse hiring businesses, and animal exhibitors.

Additionally, TDC received a Silver PawPrint for Housing, acknowledging its initiatives that encourage responsible pet ownership through tenant guidance and welfare collaborations.

Councillor Adrian Smith, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, expressed pride in the recognition, stating that the awards reflect the dedication of their teams in safeguarding animal welfare in the district. He emphasized the importance of good licensing practices and their role in supporting responsible businesses to ensure animal protection.

Councillor Andy Baker, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, noted that pets play a vital role in many tenants’ lives. He remarked that the Silver PawPrint underscores their efforts to promote responsible pet ownership, helping residents care for their animals while ensuring both pets and people receive appropriate support.

Lee Gingell, RSPCA Public Affairs Manager for Local Government, commended TDC's accomplishments, highlighting that the awards not only honor their work in Animal Activity Licensing and Housing but also serve to share best practices to improve overall animal welfare.

The RSPCA PawPrints Awards commend local public sector animal welfare initiatives across England and Wales, recognizing effective practices in various areas including Animal Activities Licensing, Stray Dog Services, Housing, Contingency Planning, and Kennelling.
