A recent murder in Massachusetts involving animal advocate Andria Hanafin has resulted in the MSPCA-Angell taking in 84 cats. Hanafin, 49, was found dead in her Reading home, which prompted the action by the animal shelter. Members from MSPCA-Angell's Law Enforcement and Community Outreach teams removed the cats from her residence.

The rescued cats are now being cared for at the MSPCA-Angell's Adoption Centers in Boston and Methuen. Some of the cats have immediate medical needs that will be addressed before they are put up for adoption. MSPCA-Angell anticipates that some of the cats may be ready for new homes within the week, while others will require more time.
MSPCA-Angell expressed gratitude towards its staff and volunteers for their efforts in managing the sudden intake of these animals. The organization highlighted that the situation places a significant demand on their resources and shelter teams.
The shelter encourages potential adopters to consider adopting a cat, either from this recent intake or any available cats in their care. Additionally, MSPCA-Angell welcomes donations to support the costs associated with medical care, treatment, and daily needs for the animals.
