Balu enlisted in the Navy in 2006, shortly after graduating from high school, where she developed leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork. Following her military service, she attended Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2020 while managing family responsibilities.
Inspired by the entrepreneurial journey of her immigrant mother, Balu understands that owning a business involves more than professional expertise; it requires a commitment to the community and a dedication to serving clients and their pets.
At CityVet Moon Valley, located at 777 E Thunderbird Road, Balu plans to offer comprehensive services such as preventive care, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, and urgent care. Her clinical interests include dermatology, ophthalmology, and cardiology, and she emphasizes the importance of communication and education in veterinary care.
"I've always wanted to create a practice where relationships really matter," said Dr. Balu. She believes that veterinary care should support the bond between pets and their families, and she aims to ensure pet owners feel heard and informed in their decisions.
As she embarks on this venture, Balu underscores the significance of workplace culture, aspiring to foster an environment where her team feels empowered and valued. Her military background informs her belief in the necessity of trust and open communication within the veterinary team.
Balu's new clinic is under the CityVet umbrella, a network of 86 veterinarian-owned practices that focus on local leadership and client-centered care. CityVet President and CEO David Boguslawski recognizes her qualifications and vision as aligned with the company’s goals.
For Dr. Balu, the opening of CityVet Moon Valley is not just a business milestone but a chance to positively impact her community, providing a place where families feel comfortable and pets receive personalized care.
