In celebration of the seventh annual National Make a Dog's Day on October 22, Subaru is encouraging the public to adopt, foster, or support shelter pets, including older dogs and those with disabilities, affectionately referred to as “Underdogs.” To promote these initiatives, Subaru launched a 15-second advertisement titled "The First Thing You Notice,” highlighting the stories of these pets.

Throughout October, Subaru retailers will host various events such as adoption drives and microchipping clinics to assist animals in finding loving homes. Aside from the financial grants, Subaru is implementing additional community engagement efforts, including a text campaign, sales of pet accessories, and donations through its Badge of Ownership program.

By the end of October, Subaru will have donated more than $75 million to animal welfare organizations since the launch of the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, reaffirming its commitment to assist animals in need. The automaker also emphasizes the importance of pets in everyday life, as highlighted in a recent survey where 73% of pet owners stated they prefer road trips to flying, to accommodate their pets.

Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Subaru, stated that when a shelter pet finds a loving home, they become part of the family, enriching both travel and leisure experiences. Meanwhile, Matt Bershadker, President and CEO of the ASPCA, commended Subaru for its ongoing commitment to help animals and the resources it provides to shelters across the nation.

According to the ASPCA, around 5.8 million animals entered shelters in the U.S. in 2025. Subaru encourages community participation in efforts to ensure these animals can find their forever homes by offering various opportunities for support and involvement throughout the month.
