Executive Director Nicki Armsby mentioned that AnimalKind serves over 5,000 animals annually. She expressed pride in their current achievements while emphasizing the need for a new space that aligns with their mission of community service and respect for the human-animal bond.
The new two-acre site will feature a one-story building, with two-thirds dedicated to sheltering, a pet food pantry, an adoption center, and office space, while the remaining area will house a medical clinic. This facility will enhance access to AnimalKind’s emergency boarding services for pet owners facing crises such as hospitalization or displacement.
Armsby noted that recent changes to New York State animal sheltering laws motivated their move, which now impose stricter requirements for veterinary care, housing standards, and daily exercise for animals, alongside licensing and inspection mandates. She highlighted the need for a facility that can accommodate the organization’s growth and meet modern standards for veterinary care and sheltering.
AnimalKind has launched a capital campaign titled “Building A Kinder Future“ to raise funds for the project, having already secured donations covering 40 percent of their financial target, including x-ray and analytical equipment.
On February 24, AnimalKind honored pet advocate Lisa Caporizzo by naming their adoption center in her memory. Caporizzo, who passed away on January 14 after a battle with cancer, was the wife of retired NEWS10 Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo and a key figure in the Pet Connection initiative.
