Professor Warwick Bayly received the Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence for his significant contributions to equine exercise and performance science. This award has been presented to distinguished faculty since 1985, acknowledging their advancements in the veterinary field.
Bayly, a former dean of the college and an accomplished equine researcher, credited his success to his colleagues. He quoted Dr. Carl Osborne, stating, "Art is I, science is we," emphasizing the collaborative nature of his work. Bayly is board-certified in large animal internal medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is a co-author of the esteemed textbook "Equine Internal Medicine," as well as authoring around 200 scientific documents related to equine health and exercise science.
Michael Letko, an assistant professor and molecular virologist, received the Dean’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research Award, which recognizes junior faculty who are emerging as leaders in their fields and are pre-tenure or within six years of starting their independent research careers.
The symposium also recognized student researchers across five categories. Eva Rickard took first place in the undergraduate category, while Riana Abeshima secured second. In the graduate category, Ana Rangel was awarded first place and Mustika Rahmawati second. Mingyao Yang topped the post-doctoral category, with Sara Westbrook in second place. Among Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students and interns, Grace Scrafford won first place, and Lyndsey Werhane received second. In the DVM resident category, Lela Remington earned first place, while Zuzanna Pietras took second.
