The center is named in honor of Dash Goff, who donated $1 million to the college. Goff is a notable thoroughbred horse owner and breeder, and the barn is also a tribute to his father, Gene Goff, the breeder and owner of the famous racehorse Nodouble.
Dr. Heidi Banse, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, expressed gratitude for Goff’s commitment, emphasizing the importance of the center for veterinary students and the future of the profession in Arkansas. The facility includes eight equine stocks, three stalls, and an equipment storage area for lab work focusing on equine care and procedures like hoof care and ultrasound.
Located near the University Farm and Agricultural Teaching and Research Center, the Dash Goff Center provides easy access for DVM students. Banse noted that the center is vital for delivering a competency-based curriculum, preparing students to meet the needs of horses and their owners upon graduation.
The facility will also serve as a hub for collaboration with industry stakeholders, including Oaklawn, to ensure that students graduate as skilled veterinarians capable of providing quality care for horses across the state and region.
Visitors to the barn will find a plaque honoring Dr. Doyne Hamm, a respected equine veterinarian who served the Goff family for many years. Nodouble, known as the "Arkansas Traveler," won the Arkansas Derby in 1968 and set several national track records.
