Michelle Lascon, executive director of KC Paws, stated, "This has been something that we’ve wanted for many years." She highlighted various challenges at the previous facility, including limited space and ongoing maintenance issues, with only one yard for the animals.

The new shelter, which opened this week in a building formerly occupied by Pet Connection, can accommodate up to 40 animals. It offers not only additional shelter space but also a larger working area and valuable outdoor facilities. "We’re only about 12 minutes away from our old building," Lascon noted.

KC Paws provides a range of services beyond sheltering, including daycare, overnight housing, and grooming for pets. Lascon mentioned that the new facility enables growth in these areas, describing the environment as "a lot quieter, a lot more peaceful." The new private rooms for dogs are designed to offer more one-on-one space.

After nearly two decades in Waldo, the move to Raytown brings new opportunities, including the establishment of a pet food pantry for families in need, which was not feasible at the previous location due to storage limitations. Lascon remarked, "We’ve already seen a huge improvement in their quality of lives here."
