Timber’s Legacy, the organization involved in her rescue, highlighted the distressing nature of her condition. Ethel’s caretaker had reached out for help, prompting a volunteer to intervene. The volunteer stated, “We were notified about a community cat that was in a questionable condition and needed intervention earlier this week. A kind senior was caring for her, but her needs were more than she could manage.”
Upon evaluation, Ethel was found to be emaciated, suffering from cataracts, and dealing with severe ear and skin infections. Additionally, she had been improperly groomed, resulting in cuts to her skin. Complicating matters, Ethel also had diabetes and would require insulin treatment. The rescuers expressed hopes that with proper care, she could enter remission, though they acknowledged the challenges involved in diabetes management.
Despite her health issues, Ethel's friendly demeanor shone through. The rescuers noted that she has a good appetite and is responding positively to her care. She has since been temporarily boarding at a veterinarian's office for stabilization before moving to a foster home.
Before transitioning to her foster care, Ethel made friends with a dog named Norbert at the vet. “Ethel is doing well!!! She will be going to her amazing foster home next Saturday, where she will live like a queen! Here she is with her buddy Norbert,” the organization shared.
Soon after, Ethel was placed in her new home, where she also became friends with another dog, Gracie. Her fur began to regrow, and her health improved significantly, leading to her diabetes going into remission. A month after her rescue, her vibrant personality remained intact, with rescuers noting that Ethel is friendly to all animals and people she encounters.
