Dr. Eden Johannes Joins Pinkerton Animal Hospital in Minot

As a full-fledged associate veterinarian, she handles a range of cases from vaccinations for puppies and kittens to more complex surgeries and end-of-life procedures. Johannes reflected on her rigorous education, stating, "Nothing can prepare you for vet school," and described her intense daily schedule of classes and study, emphasizing the demanding nature of the DVM program.

Her passion for veterinary medicine was nurtured from a young age on her family ranch near Underwood, North Dakota. Growing up around a variety of animals, she often helped her parents care for them. Her early experiences, such as assisting with calving, solidified her interest in the field. "My parents encouraged education, curiosity, and learning," she said, adding that she was fascinated by science as a child.

Johannes currently owns three horses, several cats, and a dog, and has developed a particular fondness for animal surgery, especially involving horses. She described the sensation of performing surgeries as an art form, particularly when working on challenging cases, such as mastectomies for dogs and cats diagnosed with breast cancer.

Prior to joining Pinkerton Animal Hospital, Johannes faced burnout at her previous workplace, where she worked extensive hours without adequate support. At Pinkerton, she appreciates the balanced schedule, which includes four 10-hour workdays and a collaborative on-call system among staff.

Having been part of the team for nearly a month, Johannes praised the supportive atmosphere at Pinkerton, highlighting the camaraderie with her colleagues, which includes a mix of younger and more experienced staff. She expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Minot community, stating her eagerness to care for local pets and contribute positively to their health.
