Chris Adin will become the dean of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine effective September 4. UF President Stuart R. Bell praised Adin’s qualifications, highlighting his over 20 years of clinical experience as a board-certified small animal surgeon, his extensive research publications, and his commitment to teaching and mentorship.

Currently, Adin serves as the college’s executive associate dean, a role he has held since 2022. He has also directed the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges Leadership Academy since January 2025.
Adin first joined UF in 2001 as an assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine, remaining in that position until 2006. He returned in 2018 as a professor and chair of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. Before his return to UF, he worked as an associate professor at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2015 to 2018 and was a faculty member at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2008 to 2015.
Adin earned his bachelor's degree in zoology from Duke University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. He completed both a fellowship and residency at the University of California, Davis.
His accolades include the Small Animal Teacher of the Year award from UF in 2024 and 2025, and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Ohio State in 2015. Adin succeeds Dana Zimmel, who led the college for 25 years, including seven as dean, during a time of significant growth.
