The two surviving ginger kittens, named Peanut and Butter, are currently in foster care until they are ready for permanent adoption. Nicola Tait, the founder of Byfleet Cat Rescue, expressed her shock to BBC Radio Surrey, stating, "I was absolutely shocked, the kittens had no chance." She noted that they typically receive inquiries about kittens of this age.

Tait reported that both kittens are improving, despite Butter being slightly quieter on the first day after their rescue. They will remain with their foster family until they are between eight to ten weeks old, at which point the adoption process will begin.

Byfleet Cat Rescue has had a busy summer, taking in 90 cats. Tait remarked, "We will always try and help where we can." Additionally, the charity backed a petition in September addressing a growing animal welfare crisis across the UK. According to a recent report from Cats Protection, around 7,000 stray and abandoned cats were taken in during 2025, but adoption rates have declined in recent years.
