Hospital staff quickly ensured the kitten was safe and separate from patient care areas. They made her a bed out of warm blankets and provided her with water through a syringe. The kitten was soon named Silver Bells, reflecting both her unexpected arrival and the joy she brought to the Emergency Department.
When animal control assessed Silver Bells, they determined she was a healthy 6-week-old calico. An officer mentioned that local shelters were overwhelmed and appreciated the hospital's assistance. After her evaluation, Silver Bells found a true connection with Dan Pennick, a Service Ambassador at the hospital, who welcomed her onto his shoulder.
Jill Pateros, the director of Emergency Services, remarked on the special bond, noting, "We knew she had chosen her forever home." Pennick expressed his longstanding desire for a cat, believing that if it was meant to be, one would come into his life. He took Silver Bells home at the end of his shift, who has since been renamed Fantasia of Silver Bells.
Additionally, the hospital provided the cyclist with shelter from the rain, a warm meal, and supplies for his journey, highlighting the kindness that led to Silver Bells finding her new family.
