South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue Warns of Imposters Preying on Animal Rescues

Founded in 2024 and based in Tenby, the charity focuses on improving the welfare of stray, feral, or unwanted cats and kittens through veterinary care, neutering, rehabilitation, and rehoming across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Swansea.

Recently, fake posters bearing the charity’s name circulated, featuring a phone number that does not belong to South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue. These posters have prompted members of the public to reach out if they encounter a kitten. Most concerningly, a sick kitten was handed over this Friday to two individuals after someone contacted the number listed on one of these fake posters, mistakenly believing they were engaging with the charity.

A spokesperson for South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue expressed deep concern about the situation, highlighting the risk to animals. They emphasized that the unauthorized individuals have no connection to the charity and should not be collecting animals or distributing materials in their name.

The charity urges the public to verify any posters and ensure they have the correct contact information: [email protected] and 07575 131443. They recommend contacting the charity directly if there is any uncertainty regarding someone’s legitimacy as a representative of South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue before handing over animals.

Concerns also extend to the recent placement of a cat trap, which the charity is addressing in collaboration with Dyfed-Powys Police.

The rescue has requested that anyone who has seen the fake posters or has been approached by individuals claiming to be affiliated with the charity, along with those with information about the recent kitten handover or the cat trap, should reach out to them. They advised the public not to confront any individuals directly and reassured that they are working with police to ensure the safety and welfare of animals while preventing misinformation.
