The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) in Bend is reducing dog adoption fees by 50% for all available dogs from October 1 to October 10 as part of its Barktober adoption promotion. This offer applies to dogs of all ages, including puppies, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Amber Kostoff, HSCO Executive Director, stated, "There is no one right age to adopt. Some people love raising a puppy, while others are looking for an adolescent to join them on adventures or an older dog who is ready for a quieter home." HSCO's client care team is available to assist adopters in finding a suitable match for their household.
Each adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, collar, identification tag, and leash. Additionally, adopters receive a complimentary health exam at a participating local veterinary clinic, as well as food for transitioning their pet and a goodie box containing toys and treats, along with special offers from local pet businesses.
The standard adoption process is still in effect, and licensing fees are separate from the adoption fee. HSCO’s seasonal adoption promotions aim to facilitate access to adoptable pets by offering financial assistance and support to adopters. In 2026, HSCO has helped 754 animals find new homes.
With HSCO’s kennels currently at capacity, the organization emphasizes the importance of creating additional shelter space to accommodate community needs, including stray animals, court-ordered pet holds, owner surrenders, and urgent care for pets in crisis. To view available dogs, visit hsco.org or stop by HSCO at 61170 SE 27th St in Bend, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
