UW-Eau Claire Students Study Dog Behavior Through Community Partnership

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are seeing positive outcomes from their research on dog behavior. Each year, the animal behavior class investigates dog cognition, particularly how external influences, like pointing, affect them. This initiative collaborates with the Embark Dog Training Facility.

Jennifer Smith, a professor at UWEC, noted the importance of human-dog interactions. She expressed enthusiasm for bridging the gap between academic research and community involvement, emphasizing the meaningful connections made through this partnership.

This marks the fifth year of this research project. For this year's study, student researchers are specifically examining how a dog's personality influences its response to human social cues.
