Firefighters Rescue Dog Nala from Willamette River Embankment

Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) successfully rescued a dog named Nala who fell down a steep embankment while hiking near Memorial Park in Wilsonville, Oregon, on September 28, 2026. Nala had slipped her leash and ventured down to the banks of the Willamette River, where she ended up in the water below the steep slope.

While Nala was capable of swimming, her rescue posed a challenge due to her weight of 80 pounds. Fire officials noted that getting the dog back up to safety required a coordinated effort. TVF&R’s Station 52 was dispatched to locate Nala and ensure her safe return to her owner.
