The release of the SLIDE v-UPC is part of FUJIFILM's ‘Let’s Lift the Clouds’ initiative, which aims to reduce diagnostic uncertainties in veterinary care.

The FVet® FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC measures urine protein and creatinine concentrations and is compatible with FUJI DRI-CHEM® analysers, including FDC4000, NX500, NX600, and NX700. It specifically supports UPC calculation on the NX600V and NX700V models with updated software, allowing for detailed detection of creatinine levels through its dedicated v-DL diluent.

UP/C testing is significant as persistent proteinuria, commonly associated with impaired kidney function, is a key indicator of CKD. Notably, albumin is the primary protein lost in the urine during kidney disease. By monitoring proteinuria through UP/C testing, veterinarians can identify CKD early and apply timely treatments that may slow disease progression.

Clinical findings indicate that in cats, even mild proteinuria (UP/C > 0.4) correlates with decreased survival rates, independent of age and serum creatinine levels. In dogs, a UP/C greater than 1.0 triples the risk of uremic crises and mortality, and risk increases by 1.5 times for every unit increase in UP/C. Persistent proteinuria appearing three or more times, separated by at least two weeks, is strongly indicative of CKD and necessitates further clinical evaluation.

For reliable UP/C results, standardized urine collection and handling protocols are crucial. The FUJI DRI-CHEM® SLIDE v-UPC streamlines this process by enabling rapid, in-clinic testing aligned with established veterinary guidelines.
