Bravecto Quantum provides protection for up to 12 months, making it an alternative to more frequent treatments that typically need to be administered every month or few months. Dr. Tina Wismer, senior director of toxicology at ASPCA Poison Control, indicated that the active ingredient, fluralaner, is significant for parasite control depending on geographic location. She noted that this long-lasting treatment could benefit dog owners who require continuous protection or those who struggle to remember regular dosing schedules.
The injectable treatment must be provided by a licensed veterinarian, who will decide if an eight- or twelve-month protection period is appropriate based on the local tick population. Veterinarians will also oversee the dog for any potential side effects. While the medication belongs to the commonly used isoxazoline class, which is generally deemed safe, there is a risk of neurologic side effects such as muscle tremors and seizures in some dogs.
Julie Cappiello from Voters For Animal Rights acknowledged the convenience of the twelve-month treatment while expressing caution. She emphasized that no single treatment suits every dog, and all medications carry potential risks. Pet owners are advised to consult with their veterinarians to assess whether Bravecto Quantum is suitable for their dogs, especially those with prior neurological conditions.
