The affected freeze-dried chicken recipe, intended for both cats and dogs, may contain low levels of thiamine, also known as vitamin B1. The newly recalled product is packaged in 1.25-pound bags, identified by lot code C26022, UPC 6-91730-16402-7, and has a best-by date of January 22, 2028.
According to Go Raw, the product may not have sufficient amounts of thiamine, which is crucial for normal carbohydrate metabolism and neurological function in pets. Long-term consumption of a thiamine-deficient diet can lead to symptoms such as decreased appetite, vomiting, excessive salivation, weight loss, and poor growth. More severe symptoms can include vision changes, difficulty walking, circling, falling, seizures, and significant weakness. If untreated, these symptoms can become life-threatening.
The recalled product was distributed to retail stores in Ohio and 19 other states. This expansion follows a prior recall involving various Quest Cat Food chicken recipe products, including freeze-dried nuggets and frozen diets.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should stop feeding it to their pets and return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. For any inquiries, Go Raw LLC can be contacted at 801-432-7478 or via email at [email protected].
