The organization has also raised concerns regarding other programs that may provide inadequately trained dogs or fail to offer necessary post-placement support. Veterans often encounter long wait times and communication barriers, sometimes ending up with dogs that do not suit their specific needs.
Additionally, there is a focus on the issue of misrepresenting pets as service animals. South Dakota Senate Bill 82 classifies this misrepresentation as a Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both.
