Prodogi, a veterinarian-founded pet health company, has launched a new dissolvable oral health strip designed to enhance dental care for dogs. This innovative product addresses limitations of traditional dental products like chews and powders, which only clean the surfaces directly contacted. In contrast, Prodogi's strip gradually dissolves in the dog's mouth, providing coverage over the entire oral cavity, including difficult-to-reach areas.

The launch follows a company-sponsored clinical study where Prodogi's strip outperformed one of the leading dental supplements for dogs in multiple metrics. Within just 14 days, dogs using the Prodogi strip exhibited an 80% reduction in volatile sulfur compounds, a primary indicator of harmful oral bacteria. Furthermore, Prodogi showed 41% better breath improvement, 25% greater reduction in plaque-causing bacteria, and three times more effectiveness on hard-to-reach teeth compared to its competitor.
Dr. Steve Mehler, co-founder and veterinary specialist at Prodogi, highlighted the increasing prevalence of periodontal disease in dogs, which has risen from around 80% to over 90% by age two. He noted that while many existing dental products contain effective ingredients, their delivery systems often fail to reach and cover the entire mouth adequately, limiting their effectiveness.
The Prodogi strip utilizes a unique delivery mechanism. Upon contact with saliva, the strip becomes sticky, preventing immediate swallowing and allowing it to dissolve slowly while coating the oral surfaces. Active ingredients are encapsulated in liposomal capsules, promoting controlled, sustained release and ensuring longer contact with the mouth’s surfaces.
Dr. Mehler also addressed the normalization of bad breath among dogs, stating it often indicates the presence of pathogenic bacteria. He pointed out that chronic oral inflammation can lead to more serious health issues, including kidney and heart disease. Notably, fewer than 10% of dog owners regularly brush their pets' teeth, and even thorough brushing cannot provide complete coverage.
Prodogi aims to improve daily oral care for dogs. The product is formulated by Dr. Mehler, who has over 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine, and is manufactured in the United States. Dogs weighing 65 pounds or under should receive one strip daily, while larger dogs should have two.
