Pasadena Humane Offers $50 Dog Adoption Fees Until September 29

Typically, adoption fees are $150 for dogs six months and older and $300 for puppies under six months. Each adopted dog is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home.

This marks the second discounted adoption initiative from Pasadena Humane this month. Previously, from September 10 to September 13, the shelter reduced fees for adult dogs to $25 due to a slowdown in adoptions while more animals arrived. During that drive, 21 dogs, including a white husky named Jon Snow, were adopted.

Izzy Nidetz, the shelter’s director of placement, emphasized the importance of adopting in the fall, suggesting that this timeframe allows new pet owners to establish routines before the holiday season.

Adoption hours at the shelter, located at 361 S. Raymond Ave., are daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with no appointment necessary for first-come, first-served service. Between 9:30 and 11 a.m., counselors provide one-on-one consultations with visitors, and after 11 a.m., visitors may walk through the dog kennels on their own.

Prospective adopters should bring a valid ID and a payment method, along with a carrier or a collar and leash, which are required before the pet can leave. The $50 fee does not cover all potential costs, as California law mandates dogs older than four months must be vaccinated against rabies and licensed, with additional fees for licensing in jurisdictions served by the shelter.

Additionally, the shelter has programs to lower costs further. Under the Seniors for Seniors initiative, individuals aged 60 and older can adopt pets aged five and older at no cost. Adoption fees are also waived for active-duty and retired military personnel with valid military ID.

Founded in 1903, Pasadena Humane is a nonprofit organization that provides animal care and control services for Pasadena, Altadena, and surrounding communities. The $50 adoption fee promotion concludes after September 29.
