EAST BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A kitten, now named Xena, is recovering after being abandoned along Route 18 in East Brunswick. The 4- to 6-week-old kitten was found on September 3 by a Good Samaritan who witnessed someone place her in the grass before driving away.

The witness investigated and contacted New Beginnings Animal Rescue NJ for assistance. Upon examination, veterinarians discovered that Xena had a broken hind leg with multiple fractures, which has since been placed in a cast.
Due to her young age, Xena will require ongoing veterinary care as she heals. Currently, she is recuperating in foster care. To support her treatment and the care of other cats and kittens, New Beginnings Animal Rescue has established a medical fund. The rescue has affectionately referred to her as "Xena - Warrior Princess" and reports that she is safe and well cared for as she recovers.
