Rebecca Phillips, the Cats Protection Norwich & District coordinator, described Atlas as looking extremely unwell. A veterinary examination revealed cataracts in his right eye, along with a painful condition called entropion, which causes the eyelid to turn inward. Phillips noted that the kitten must have been in significant distress prior to being rescued.
Vets opted for the removal of both eyes to alleviate Atlas's suffering and provide him a better quality of life. He is now recovering in foster care, where Phillips remarked on his remarkable resilience despite his traumatic experiences. Initially wary, Atlas has since become playful and affectionate, enjoying toys and showing a strong purr.
The surgery cost £1,295, contributing to a total expenditure of nearly £3,600 for the care of the feral colony. The charity is now seeking donations to help cover these costs, with Phillips expressing that caring for Atlas has heavily impacted their funds. The community is urged to assist through a JustGiving page, which has so far raised £445.
