Before Hurricane Isaias struck the Gulf Coast, MSPCA-Angell transported around 30 dogs from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Alabama to Massachusetts. This move was part of the organization's Natural Disaster Relief program, in collaboration with the Bissell Pet Foundation. The dogs arrived at Beverly Regional Airport last Friday, October 9, and were taken to the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, according to Boston 25 News.

This initiative allows Alabama shelters to free up space for dogs that may have been separated from their families due to the storm. MSPCA-Angell indicated that the relocated dogs, varying in age and breed, will be available for adoption after undergoing a 48-hour quarantine and any necessary medical or behavioral evaluations.

Mike Keiley, director of adoption centers and programs at MSPCA-Angell, emphasized the importance of helping animals in need. He stated, "Everyone hearing this message can help this effort in some way or another." He also noted that New England shelters often have the capacity to assist those in high-intake areas, especially during emergencies. Keiley encouraged the public to consider adopting not only the newly arrived dogs but also animals already in their shelters. He added, "We're also always in need of adopters and fosters. The more space we have in our shelters, the more animals we'll be able to help as hurricane season continues."
