Pasadena Humane has announced a reduction in dog adoption fees to $25 for dogs aged six months and older, effective until Sunday, September 13. As of the announcement, the shelter was caring for over 450 animals, including more than 150 dogs. This total accounts for those available for adoption, pets living with foster families, and stray animals awaiting reunification with their owners. The shelter has highlighted that large dogs are particularly in need of adopters.
The standard adoption fee for dogs six months and older is typically set at $150. Chris Ramon, president and CEO of Pasadena Humane, noted that one recent day saw 48 animals—33 cats and 15 dogs—brought into the shelter, marking one of the busiest intake days in recent memory.
Ramon stated, "Adopting a dog right now not only changes that dog’s life, it creates critical space for the next animal who needs us."
The month of September tends to see fewer adoptions as families return to their regular routines following summer vacations. All adopted dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to going home. Adoptions are conducted daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 361 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, on a first-come, first-served basis. Prospective adopters are required to bring a valid ID, a form of payment, and a carrier or leash and collar. For those adopting in cities where Pasadena Humane provides licensing, an additional fee for licensing will apply on adoption day.
Pasadena Humane functions as the animal care and control agency for Altadena and serves a total of 12 communities. This fee reduction follows the organization’s previous Hot Dog and Cool Cat Summer promotion, which waived adoption fees for adult dogs and cats from July 31 to August 9.
