Saving Grace Humane Society in Roseburg, Oregon, is set to host a fee-waived adoption event this weekend as part of the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign. This will be the third and final event in the national campaign, which aims to raise awareness about pet adoption and fostering. The event is scheduled for October 16-17.

During the event, adoption fees typically ranging from $25 to $225 will be waived for approved adopters for all dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. On October 16, 104.5 SAM-FM and Dreams and Vibes Co. will be present at the shelter from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., while adoption hours will run from noon to 6:30 p.m. Attendees are welcome to enjoy music, “dirty soda, and rolled ice cream,” regardless of whether they plan to adopt.

According to Saving Grace, shelters nationwide remain at capacity, with almost six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2025. The organization emphasizes that adopting a pet can transform both the animal's life and help create space for other animals in need. Fostering is also encouraged as a way to provide temporary care for pets.

Melissa Owens, development director at Saving Grace Humane Society, expressed the impact of adoption, stating, "At Saving Grace, we see every day how life-changing adoption can be for both animals and the people who welcome them home. Thanks to the ASPCA’s support, we’re able to remove one more barrier to adoption during these fee-waived events. We encourage anyone who has been thinking about adding a pet to their family to come meet their new best friend."

The Rescue Effect campaign, which began in August, will conclude in October. The ASPCA is providing $2 million in grants this year to assist with adoption fees and support operations for participating shelters and rescue groups across the nation.
