Jordan's Way conducts live fundraising events that not only raise money in real time but also enhance the visibility of animals available for adoption. According to their website, their mission is to provide support to underfunded shelters and give a voice to overlooked dogs.
Belmont County dog warden Lisa Duvall expressed anticipation for the construction, which she hopes will begin in November, pending weather conditions. The current shelter is in poor condition, with Duvall noting that repairs would exceed the cost of building a new facility. The entire project is estimated at $6 million and will be financed through a combination of county and grant funds, as previously stated by Belmont County Commissioner Jerry Echemann.
Duvall emphasized the benefits of the new shelter design. "It’ll be easier and less stressful for the animals," she said, pointing out that the new layout will include pods for dogs instead of a single, noisy kennel. This will help mitigate stress for both the animals and the staff. Additionally, the new design will feature a dedicated space for cats, who are currently confined due to space limitations.
As part of the fundraising efforts, the shelter's staff will engage in various games and activities during a live stream, incentivized by viewer donations. Some planned activities include playful stunts such as a staff member receiving a peanut butter facial and a dog eating whipped cream off a staff member's forehead. The fundraiser aims to raise $15,000, from which 70% will support the shelter and 30% will go to Jordan's Way to help sustain their operations.
Jordan's Way boasts nearly 1 million followers on Facebook and claims to have raised over $14 million for more than 500 animal shelters, facilitating 80,000 adoptions. Their commitment to animal welfare is underscored by their outreach efforts, which aim to inspire community involvement in pet adoption.
